Party Mix

Reminds me of Mom and Dad’s parties from way back. Something I found on the Internet.

1 package Cheerios
1 package Rice Chex
1 package Wheat Chex
2 cups Pretzel Stix
2 cans salted peanuts
3/4 cup pecans
3/4 pound butter

1 tablespoon
SPICE ISLANDS* Beau Monde Seasoning Salt
1 tablespoon SPICE ISLANDS Smoke Flavored Salt
1 teaspoon SPICE ISLANDS Marjoram
1 teaspoon SPICE ISLANDS Summer Savory
1/2 teaspoon SPICE ISLANDS Garlic Powder
1/2 teaspoon SPICE ISLANDS Onion Powder
1/8 teaspoon SPICE ISLANDS Cayenne

In a large baking pan carefully mix cereals, pretzels and nuts. Hand pulverize marjoram, savory, blend with other seasonings. Then blend with cereals. Cut butter into small chunks over entire surface. Place in 250 degree oven for 45 minutes. Stir during toasting period, being careful to keep cereals whole. May be stored in refrigerator in air-tight containers.

That was the old-fashioned recipe. Today, I would bake with the butter and spices, but put the dried herbs on afterward. They’re already dried out, do they need 45 minutes of baking? I’d say this is an advertisement for Spice Islands spices! Also, back then I guess cans of peanuts only came in one size! Pretzel Stix! Who knew?

Lens: Stand Clear of the Closing Doors, Please

To navigate mass transit in New York is to experience all of the city’s struggles, pleasures, and pains — only transposed underground. Richard Perry captured an environment where seconds count.

Why bother?
Why the pain?
Just go home
Do it again.
